As a young family with two children, we are always looking for something to do that doesn’t cost a lot. During the Christmas season, we love to find new things to do that are within a short drive and, if possible, free. Today, I’d like to share some of our favorite things to do.

1. Drink hot chocolate and look at Christmas lights

My kids love hot chocolate! They love Christmas lights. We have so many neighborhoods near us that decorate with such pretty lights. Why not make some hot chocolate, pour it into some thermoses (thermi?) and go for a short, quick drive.

2. Watch some Christmas movies

We have our favorites that we watch every year, and you probably do too. If you don’t though, there are tons of free movies on Amazon Prime Video you can check out during the Christmas season. You can even pop some popcorn and make a night of it.

3. Bake some Christmas cookies

You can make them from scratch with ingredients you likely have on hand. You can also, for a few dollars, buy some cookie mix. You can decorate them, or just eat them plain. Baking cookies with your kids is tons of fun for everyone.

4. Do a little Christmas crafting

Challenge yourselves to create an original Christmas craft with materials you have on hand. You can even give it to someone as a gift, or keep it for yourself.

5. Christmas karaoke party or dance party

Crank up those Christmas tunes and have a blast! Dance your heart out, or have a holiday sing along. Get loud and have fun with it!
