Fun Friday: my summer bucket list

Don’t mind the kitty in the bucket. I just thought it was cute.

Many of us have a bucket list for our lives, but do you ever make one for summer? There are so many fun things I want to do with my daughters this summer. They got out of school May 12, but I don’t get out until June 9. As a result, that gives me a few weeks to plan some big fun for us. The girls have heavily contributed to this list as well. Here is what I want to do, in no particular order.

1. Visit an aquarium.

NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher

I visited an aquarium recently with my students, but not my children. We will likely visit the aquarium at the beach or visit the one at the Natural Science Center in Greensboro. I love animals and my children do too. Who doesn’t love looking at sharks and sea turtles?

2. Go to the beach

Our family takes a vacation each year, but we haven’t gone to the beach in two years. We are overdue having some sand in our shoes. We may take a short trip to the coast, but I plan to take one.

3. Read a very engaging book and watch the movie adaptation

This summer, for my seven year old, we have chosen to read Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary and Pippi Longstocking. Both are highly entertaining reads with movies we can then watch. She will love the spunky, spirited protagonists and will laugh at the situations they find themselves in. For my oldest who will soon be 12, we have chosen Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli and The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. Both of them have either a movie or a series which we can watch on our streaming platforms.

4. Visit some museums

We live a little over an hour from Raleigh. Raleigh has the Museum of Life and Science, Marbles Childrens Museum, and the North Carolina History Museum.

5. Spend a lot of time at the pool

Last year, we didn’t go to the pool very much at all, but this year, I am going to make sure we get properly chlorinated. It is cheap and fun entertainment, right?

6. Go to the lake

B. Everette Jordan Lake Chatham County, NC

We live about 30 minutes from Jordan Lake. I spent a lot of time here as a kid on the beaches or on my dad’s boat, but I’ve only taken my kids there once. This summer, we are going to go play in the lake.

6. Go to a concert

Chatham Rabbits, Austin and Sarah McCombie

It’s been a minute since we have seen our friends the Chatham Rabbits. I would surely love to hear them perform this summer.

I hope you have enjoyed my summer bucket list. What is on your summer bucket list this year?
