Make a Fixer Upper Inspired Typography Sign

You all know by now how much I love signs with words and quotes. I also love Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper. I love the episode where she created this super cute atrium.

Source: HGTV

I loved everything about that cute little atrium, but I especially loved that cute “herboriste” sign. I tried in vain to find one but then decided to create my own.

I dig into my scrap lumber and found the perfect board.

I decided it needed a border so I taped it off with painters tape.

I cut out the word “herboriste” and placed it where I wanted it.

I busted out my old standby, a can of spray paint in one of my favorite colors.

I went to work painting the boards and removed the cut out letters, then traced the letters and filled them in with black paint.

I absolutely love how it turned out.

I think it makes a great addition to our patio.

What projects have you completed recently?

DIY: Fixer Upper Inspired Wood Sign

Lumber on My Minivan

I have a pile of scrap lumber and I don’t want to waste it. I don’t even have any pressing building projects at the moment. However, I still want to create something from the wood.

I’ve been crushing on this Magnolia sign for awhile, but sadly, I didn’t act soon enough and now it’s discontinued.

Magnolia: Bakery Sign

I could just make something similar, right?

I found a board of a reasonable size and I painted the entire front and sides of the board white.

I got to work selecting the letter font and letter size I wanted. I then printed them off…

…and cut them out and arranged them on my board. I then traced the letters and filled them in.

The last thing left to do was to add a wall hanger to my new creation.

And then I just had to hang it on my dining room wall.

I am loving how simple and cute this looks hanging in my dining room! I will be featuring more signs and wood creations soon. Stay tuned 🙂

Free New Years Day Printables

Free New Years Day Printables

Are you planning a New Years Party but you’re struggling to find the perfect decoration? Look no further than Organized and Simplified! Today, I am offering two brand new, completely free New Year’s Printables just for you.

First, we have this simple, gold Happy New Year print. You can print this up to 11×14, but I think it would make a fantastic postcard to send out to your friends and family. You could have it printed and put a picture of your family on the back.

This second one is a take on the traditional song “Auld Lang Sine” and it’s pretty simple and elegant as well. I could see this framed and hanging on someone’s mantle.

For best results, right click and save to your device. It is always a good idea to have these Printables professionally printed by a copy house or print shop (I like to use Staples Copy and Print). They will often print an 11×14 for less than $5. I would not recommend printing these designs larger than 11×14.

Happy New Year! Join us on January 2 for our New Year’s Resolutions.

Free printable Friday: 5 free art prints for little girls’ rooms

free art prints for little girls

As you know, I love to update the art work in my girls’ rooms, as well as in the rest of the house. Purchasing artwork is often expensive, but it’s surprisingly easy to create your own. Today, I am sharing some free art prints that I made using Canva (www.canva.com). Please feel free to download, print them off, and enjoy them!

  1. Esther- Perhaps this is the moment for which you were created.

What better role model exists for your young girl than Queen Esther in the Bible? Her story is all about taking risks, taking chances, trusting God, and having big things happen as a result.

Created.

2. Esther 4:14 with a floral design

the moment

3. Inspiring our girls is important. This art print is positive and encouraging, and sure to remind your girl to be everything she can be.  I love this one so much I printed it and put it on my desk at work.

she believed she could, so she did.

4.  When we are children of God, we sometimes need to be reminded “He’s got this” when things get rough. This sign is a perfect reminder for little girls and old girls, too.

I am a child of God

5.  “For you are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

I found a print very similar to this at Hobby Lobby, but I wasn’t going to pay $26 for it. I decided to make it myself for free! I love the vibrant colors and the floral wreath, and I hope you will, too.

For you are fearfully and wonderfully made

To download, simply right click on your desired print and save it to your device. For best results, I like to send mine to Staples to have them printed.

I hope you have enjoyed these printables! Oh, and PS: You don’t have to have a little girl to download and print them. You can enjoy them anywhere  in your home or office 🙂

DIY Typographical art and how you can make it!

DIY Typographical art and how you can make it!

If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know about my obsession with typographical art. I’m also just a tiny bit obsessed with monogrammed things.

I recently used the Weddingchics website to print this monogram on a burlap sheet.

You can buy the burlap sheets at Walmart in packs of four for $5. The Weddingchics monogram download is free but copyrighted. It is available to you for personal use, though.

Did you know you can use your word processor to create a simple monogram that looks high end and elegant? I used several different fonts to get the look I wanted.

The letter B and the name “Boone” are in the Century Gothic font, with two lines drawn above and below the name. This font came free with my word processing software. The year “2009” is written in Bradley Hand, which was also already on our computer. The word “established” is in Brusher font, which I downloaded from freefonts.com.

I already had the frame so this project cost me absolutely nothing. I love a good free project!

Have a wonderful week! Here’s a look at what we are sharing this week on Organized and Simplified:
