Five Friday Favorites: Favorite Fall Fun Activities that Dont Cost You a Dime

Fall is my favorite season. It’s not only a beautiful time of year with the changing leaves, but there are so many fun things you can do. I thought I’d share some of my favorites with you today. The best thing about all of these is that they don’t cost you a dime.

1. Enjoy a spectacular fall sunset

Do you have a porch with an amazing view? Do you have an amazing view? Then go outside, enjoy a hot cup of coffee or an iced tea, and enjoy the beautiful sunset. North Carolina truly has some amazing sunsets- I try to pause and enjoy it every so often.

2. Make a fire and roast some marshmallows

Your fire pit doesn’t have to be fancy. Just a ring of rocks will do. My kids love to make s’mores and they look forward to this every year.

3. Go hiking or trail running

My favorite running buddy and I love to hit a trail when the weather cools off. Even if you aren’t a runner, you still may enjoy taking a brisk walk on a trail. Either way, a trail walk or run doesn’t cost a thing!!

4. Check out the pretty fall foliage

The leaves burst into some beautiful colors this time of year. Take a walk or take a drive and enjoy the beauty.

5. Visit a pumpkin patch

This one may or may not cost money. If you know someone who has a pumpkin farm, you may get to choose your pumpkin for free, but local farms and pumpkin patches will likely charge admission. The good news is farms that charge admission often offer other activities, such as hayrides, corn mazes, or foods.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Five Friday Favorites!! Have a wonderful weekend.

Fall home tour 2019

Fall home tour 2019

Our favorite season is upon us here at Lumber in my Minivan! I can’t tell you how much I love fall in the south- the temperatures cool off, the leaves change and everybody heads outside.

My house seems to be in its finest glory when the fall decor comes out. I tried to change it up a little this year and I’m loving the results.

When you come in the front door, you’re greeted by sunflowers and the soft glow of candles in this vignette, which can be found on our sofa table.

Our living room is full of pumpkins, sunflowers, bittersweet and candles. I especially love these sweet fall pillows I ordered online last year.

One of my favorite things about our living room decor is this beautiful wreath Michael’s family sent us when my dad died.

This sweet vignette is on our coffee table.

We also have a similar vignette in our office/ family room.

If you’re curious, that tree field guide belonged to my dad.

I am loving our fall table runner and the fall potpourri I put in our bread bowl. It smells so good!

The window in our dining room got a little fall goodness too in the form of milkglass, a lantern and some fall florals.

Even our kitchen is sporting a little fall goodness.

The shelves in our master bath look so cute with the sunflowers and pine cones.

I decided our hall bath needed some sunflowers as well 😃

Throughout our fall house tour, you’ve likely seen these elements repeated: milk glass, pine cones, bittersweet, copper pumpkins and sunflowers.

Tune in next week for some pictures of our outdoor fall decor.

Fabulous Fall Finds at Dollar General

Fabulous Fall Finds at Dollar General

I have been itching to decorate for fall lately, and now that it’s finally September, I just might. Have you all been to Dollar General recently? They have so many beautiful fall things and for such awesome prices! There were many things I wanted to buy and I still may go back and buy them later.

This comfy fall throw is soft and I love the colors. This muted gray would be beautiful thrown over my couch.

This pretty tea towel would look great in a kitchen or a bathroom.

These cute little fall bowls are reminiscent of Rae Dunn and I am seriously considering going back and buying about six of them.

I want this cute little sign so bad. My aunt was with me at the DG and she talked about buying this and putting it in the center of a deco mesh wreath, which would be really pretty.

These pretty little metal baskets would be great in a fall vignette.

These small canvas fall signs are available in several different designs and are another thing I’m debating on going back to buy.

I’ve earmarked this cute little clock for a project I’m about to do. Isn’t it cute?

These cute little galvanized pails could be used for so many things.

I want some of these little candle lanterns.

This photo frame is so pretty. I’ve almost bought it many a time.

There were also some really cute candle holders and some fall vase fillers that I liked and didn’t get pictures of.

Which of these fall finds are you crushing on?

Tune in next week for some sweet fall wreaths!

I found these really cute pumpkins at Walmart this week. They’ve got a neat shape to them, but they don’t really look real. In fact, they don’t look real at all. They’ve got this weird pale yellow color that just looks….strange.

So, I picked up two of them. They are available in many sizes, but I chose two medium sized ones. I had a neat idea in mind for them and as cheap as they are, I really couldn’t pass them up.

I dragged out my chalk paint stash and immediately slathered a coat of white chalk paint on them.

If you’re new to chalk paint, you’ll need to know that everything you paint has an ugly stage. And that ugly stage is usually solved by adding a second coat.  I was pretty pleased with the pumpkin after the second coat.

I think adding the white paint to the pumpkin makes it much more real-looking, don’t you?

I cannot wait to show you all what I decided to do with them… in fact, if you visit the blog on Wednesday, I’ll show you.

Have a wonderful week!
