Dollar Store Crafts: Handmade Ornaments

Dollar Store Crafts: Handmade Ornaments

Every year, we make several ornaments to add to our tree. We try to find ornament ideas that are cheap, fun to make and cute! My little girls loved making these snowman ornaments! We made them largely from things we already had on hand.

These empty glass ornaments are available almost anywhere, and you can find packs of four of them at almost any dollar store. We used one of these, but you will also need the following items:

an orange pipe cleaner to bend and create the carrot nose, white glue (we used Modge Podge), buttons for the eyes, a baby sock for the hat, and epsom salt. You can also paint the Christmas ornament white (we did).

First, we painted the ornaments white by pouring paint inside them and swirling the ornament until it was painted completely.

We then coated the outside of the ornament with white glue and rolled it in the epsom salt. You may need to do this more than once to completely cover the ornament. Just allow 12 hours between coats to dry.

We then glued the buttons, carrot nose, and the sock hat to the snowball. When we finished, we had this cute little snowman ornament.

Share your cute and homemade ornaments with us!

Tune in Saturday for our favorite Christmas traditions.

4 Christmas Gifts Your Grandmother Will Love

Four Christmas Gifts Your Grandmother Will Love!

Shopping for your grandmother can be a bit more challenging than shopping for a friend or colleague. You’ll need to find something that she hasn’t already received over the course of her life! If you’re stuck for ideas, here are just a few holiday gift ideas that will suit your grandma.

1. Gift Basket

The great thing about gift baskets is that they’re easily customized depending on your grandmother’s interests. If she likes gardening, you can get her a gift basket filled with seeds, gloves and shovels. If she enjoys gourmet food, you can find a gift basket with cheese and champagne. The sky is the limit when you’re willing to sift through your options.

2. Scrapbook

This is a meaningful gift that will bring tears to her eyes. Fill a scrapbook with photos, receipts, ticket stubs, movie passes and loving messages about how much that she means to you. Not only will it be a great holiday gift, but it’ll also be a memento that she returns to again and again throughout the year.

3. Music

Everyone enjoys a good tune, and your grandma will find it especially meaningful if you put together a list of hits from her childhood. You don’t have to buy it on vinyl. You can simply purchase a subscription to a digital streaming service and set up a playlist filled with all of her old favorites. You can even teach her how to use it for extra bonding!

4. Figurines

Figures are a great gift because they can be displayed everywhere from foyers to fireplace mantles. Whether you’re looking at delicate animal figurines or festive Jim Shore figurines, you’re sure to find something that suits your grandmother’s taste. Just don’t forget the display stand to go along with the figurine!

These are just a few Christmas gifts that are perfect for grandma. However, try not to stress too much over your selection! At the end of the day, it’s the thought that counts, and your grandma will be pleased with any effort that you make. It’s what grandmas do.

How to DIY Christmas ornaments from pinecones!

How to DIY Christmas ornaments from pinecones! Sometimes you just need a cute, easy craft that doesn’t cost you a dime. That’s exactly what I needed this week, and it turned out super cute. I picked up these pinecones from our neighbor’s yard but I already had the glue gun, ribbon and twine in my craft cabinet. I cut the ribbon at the length I wanted and tied them into simple little bows. I then tied the twine around the knot on the bows and hot glued the bow knots to the base of the pine cones. I told you this was easy!! And I made six of them in different sizes. And then I hung them on our tree. Next year, I may create a woodland tree with these pine cones and wood slice ornaments. Arent they pretty? What awesome and free crafts have you done lately?

An Organized Holiday:Christmas planning binder

Have you ever made lists for Christmas? Making lists is something most of us already do without even really thinking about it. But did you know you can create a binder to help you organize and simplify your Christmas season?

I keep a binder with a December calendar, shopping lists, recipes, grocery lists, address lists, and holiday to-do lists. I also include any pictures or magazine features I want to utilize. I use tab dividers to keep the binder organized and easier to use.
