Sunday Musings: I don’t have it all together…and that’s OK

I don’t have it all together. Not even close.

If most of us are honest, we will admit that we don’t have it all together. In today’s Pinterest-perfect society, we are expected to be perfectly dressed with perfect makeup, not a hair out of place, with perfectly clean, magazine worthy homes. We are expected to have a home-cooked dinner on the table every night, with perfectly dressed and perfectly behaved children.

I don’t have that; at least, not all the time. And never all at once. So, who holds us to this impossibly high standard? We do. We hold ourselves to these impossibly high standards we can never meet, but luckily, God does not.

God chose us, even though we are a long way from perfect. We don’t have it all together and God chose us anyway.

Ephesians 1:4 says “For he chose us in Him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before Him.” We don’t need to be perfect; we just need Jesus. There are no perfect humans, and there don’t need to be. Jesus already fulfilled the role of the perfect human.

It’s tempting to spend all of our time trying to be perfect and live up to those impossible standards, but instead, let’s put that energy into trying to be like Jesus. He already knows we aren’t perfect and he loves us anyway.

Have a blessed week.

Life as a Lumber: What we’ve been up to!

Goofin’ off with my Little Lumbers

Hello, all! We are gearing up for a tremendously busy but tremendously great spring season. I cannot wait to share the wonder we have in store for you all, but I first wanted to catch up a bit. If you follow me on Instagram, some of this will not be new to you. And if you don’t follow me on Insta, you definitely should!

Someone has been bad and needs to go to the Principal’s office!!

Ok, not really! But we did surprise these two with a trip to West Jefferson, Valle Crucis and Boone two weekends ago. They loved it and so did we. We even stopped by my grandma’s house and got to visit with my grandma, aunt and uncle, and cousins on our way home.

We finally got some snow!!

Not long after we came home from the mountains, it started snowing! It didn’t snow a lot but we were out of school two days and the kids enjoyed playing in it.

Cutie sisters

These two stinkers actually got along for a few days and I have pictures to prove it!!

Rehearsal

This one is gearing up for her next competition and has been practicing like crazy! Wish her well because those nerves are really starting to set in.

Selfie queen

This one commandeered my phone and took hundreds of selfies- I made a collage of her best ones…and laughed at how much her “selfie game” has improved.

It’s clean!!

And we have started cleaning out our playroom, since we are about to repurpose this room. Spoiler alert: it’s going to be used for something else, and no, it’s not a nursery for a new baby. Just in case anyone gets confused.

Join us this week for our spring home tour, some beautiful spring quotes and a round up of my favorite spring decor at local retailers. Have a wonderful week!

Life with the Lumbers: What we’ve been up to!

We enjoyed a low-key, no big deal weekend at home this past week.

Little Miss Daisy Mae loves looking out the window. You can bet if you open the blinds for her, she’ll be sure to check up on the happenings outdoors.

We removed a ton collar from a post in our backyard and found a colony of ladybugs! Since I like ladybugs, I thought this was pretty neat.

I also tried on my old pointe shoes and realized two things: my ankles are not as strong as they used to be and my shoes are too small. I have been thinking about taking an adult ballet class.

Then, we dragged out our hammock, which we strung up between two trees. Who knew a hammock could be so entertaining?

Then, we had some fun with a fallen tree in our woods. Nature’s playground.

We finished up our weekend with a little trampoline fun. Sometimes a little low key weekend at home is just what you need to recharge.

And it was an absolute blast.

Create your own bulletin board

I wanted a cute bulletin board for my daughter’s desk, but I wanted it to be cute. I also didn’t want it to cost a lot.

I decided to use what I had on hand and make it happen. I had an empty white frame and some foam poster board. I also had cute fabric that would match her room and some pretty ribbon.

I began by cutting my poster board to size with scissors.

I then used Locktite spray adhesive to attach my fabric.

After I got the fabric attached, I decided it needed a little something more. I chose to add ribbon and glue some white buttons to the board.

And then I popped it into a frame and hung it up. The eldest little Lumber chose some of her favorite pictures to display on her new board.

It turned out super cute and so helpful for organizing her desk area.

And best of all, it was super cheap and super easy to make as well.

Keepin’ up with Lumber in my Minivan

Well, life returned to normal this week when we all said goodbye to our beloved Christmas break and went back to work and school. The oldest of the Little Lumbers actually went back to school last week.

Because I never get to do fun mommy things like eat lunch at school with my kid, I did exactly that. This is one benefit to working on a different school system than the one your children attend- you can sometimes do some non-teacher parent things when you’re off and they’re not.

I also captured this super cute picture of the Littlest Lumber modeling her Daddy’s church shoes. Daisy the cat seems to be saying, “what are thooooose?”

I’ve been a bit under the weather this week but I went back to work. A certain little kitty decided to keep me company. She’s a pretty good nurse.

I’m working on transitioning my out building into a new crafting space for me. I needed somewhere to spread out my projects and not worry about having to clean them back up each day. Right now it still looks like a hot mess but I’m definitely not done.

Yikes.

Well, that’s what’s new with the Lumbers this week! Check back tomorrow for Scripture Sunday!
