Emorie: Now entering the back nine

Nine years ago today, our oldest daughter Emorie blew into the world. We were told only one year earlier we’d never have children without fertility intervention. We said we’d go home and think about it. Two months later, we found out she was on the way. She was born three weeks early and was the tiniest, pinkest infant Id ever seen in my life. We were instantly in love.

Her personality grew right along with her and she gained a fan club everywhere we went.

She was snuggly, sweet and had her daddy wrapped around her finger. Still does, in fact.

Even as a toddler, she was known for her sunny personality and soft spot for others.

She is smart, talented, kind hearted and loving. She is empathetic toward others and wants to be an oncology nurse someday.

She doesn’t like to admit it, but she loves her little sister and tries to take care of her.

She is happiest when she is dancing and she works hard each day to become better at her dancing.

She is growing up so fast and will be a fourth grader this fall. We have realized we only have nine more years left before she goes to college. Time truly does fly when you’re having fun.

Happy birthday, Sunshine. You are loved beyond measure.

Always Eat After Seven P.M.: One Month Later

This post is brought to you by our sponsor, “Always Eat After 7 PM”. The opinions expressed below are my own.

Hi, all! I am now rounding out my fourth week of Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion . It’s been a great month and I’ve enjoyed many tasty meals, and I’ve felt great. I’ve even lost about five more pounds. Prior to beginning Always Eat After Seven P.M., I was counting macronutrients. I still continued to do this, but I changed up what I was eating a bit and most importantly, WHEN I was eating. I’ve always been one to eat a large breakfast and a sparse dinner, since I’ve always believed you weren’t supposed to eat a large meal late in the evening. I was skeptical at first, but I found eating a larger, carbohydrate based meal at 7P.M. or a little later helped me to sleep better and have more energy the next day. I also didn’t wake up starving.

I plan to continue counting macronutrients and following the guidelines in Always Eat After 7 P.M. The recipes in the book are easy to make and are delicious, and the amount of energy I have now is wonderful.

The book was easy to read and it challenged a lot of what I’ve believed about nutrition over the years. Joel Marion, the author, uses several scientific studies to support his claims. For instance, “A research paper published in Sports Medicine in 2014 showed that people who eat the majority of their carbs at dinner actually sleep better. Carb-induced, quality sleep decreases cortisol (a fat-storing hormone) and ramps up the production of your sleep hormones, serotonin and melatonin. Restorative sleep increases fat-burning hormones—the main one being growth hormone—overnight.”

Joel Marion’s Always Eat After 7PM program makes dieting easy and eliminates 90% of reasons for resistance.  The most challenging times to curb hunger are just before bed and in the morning. By following the Always Eat After 7PM program, you have the most willpower to stay on the diet because you are eating during the hours when you are most hungry. This also puts you into both intermittent fasting increasing testosterone and your metabolism, while putting you into ketosis.   The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.

If you want to have your knowledge of nutrition challenged and tested, you should check out Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion  You will find a diet plan that is not overly restrictive, that allows you to continue to eat some of your favorite foods and helps you to feel better and have more energy. It sounds too good to be true but it isn’t. Learn more about the book and how to purchase it here.

Life as a Lumber: what we’ve been up to

I apologize for the lack of posts lately but things have been a bit crazy busy around here. We are still self quarantined but things have picked up a bit with us. We are knee deep in house projects and we’ve only just finished school.

This little bumblebee is enjoying a thistle flower drink.

The girls and I have been taking walks each day and we see so many things on our walks that make us smile.

Our neighbor’s cows always stop to watch us walk. They are skittish and won’t come to the fence though.
Our lillies are in bloom and they’re beautiful.
Our garden is doing well too and we are overrun with squash.
The girls are doing great and growing fast.
My hair got crazy long but it’s all good. I’m cutting it this week.
We learned to make cake in a mug and it is delicious! Recipe soon!!

Thanks for sticking with us! We will be back on regular schedule this week.

Two Weeks of “Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion”

This post is brought to you by our sponsor, “Always Eat After 7 PM”. The opinions expressed below are my own.

Hi, all! Remember this post, where I talked about wanting to have more energy, and lose weight since the gyms are still closed? After trying fad diet after fad diet, believing many diet misconceptions, and always gaining my weight back, I decided to try Joel Marion’s Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion  to see if I could lose weight and gain energy.

I have been counting macronutrients and calories as well as weight training and running, which I have had a lot of success with. I decided I’d incorporate some of Joel Marion’s principles in conjunction with counting macronutrients and it has proven to be the best fit for me.

Prior to beginning Always Eat After Seven, I frequently ate light meals for dinner, and I ate them no later than 6:30 P.M. This often meant I would wake up starving, or I’d cave and snack on something unhealthy at night time. I decided to try eating a heavier, higher carb meal (but making sure to save my carbs so I did not exceed my daily carb allotment). Within two weeks I lost the remaining three pounds and hit my second short term goal.

In Always Eat After Seven P.M., Joel Marion addresses the misconception that eating heavier meals later in the evening is detrimental to weight loss.

“A research paper published in Sports Medicine in 2014 showed that people who eat the majority of their carbs at dinner actually sleep better,” he said. “Carb-induced, quality sleep decreases cortisol (a fat-storing hormone) and ramps up the production of your sleep hormones, serotonin and melatonin. Restorative sleep increases fat-burning hormones—the main one being growth hormone—overnight.”

There are so many things I love about the book- the easy-to-follow meal plans make meal planning and grocery shopping easy. The recipes are easy to make and are delicious, without a lot of special ingredients. Have you ever had trouble following a diet because you couldn’t find the recipe ingredients anywhere in the stores? You won’t have that problem with Always Eat After 7 P.M.

My children are picky and often won’t try new things, but this cheesy ground beef skillet was a crowd pleaser. It was easy to make and everyone in our family loved it. Most of the recipes in the book require minimal prep so they are perfect for busy families like ours. You can eat a quick and delicious meal that doesn’t come from a drive thru.

Check out this video of author Joel Marion talking about some of the recipes included in the book:
