Just 4 Fun Friday: What’s on my bucket list?

Advertisements

When I was younger, I didn’t know what a bucket list was. I thought it was a list of things you wanted to plant in your bucket…or maybe a list of buckets you wanted to buy for various purposes (galvanized tin bucket, anyone?).

If you’re smarter than my younger self, you already know this, but if you don’t, a bucket list is a list of things you want to accomplish or experience before you “kick the bucket,” or die. All joking aside, I once asked my dad what was on his bucket list and was surprised to discover how similar are lists were. Unfortunately, he died a young man and didn’t get to experience a lot of his bucket list.

I thought today it might be fun to share my bucket list with you, and to encourage you to share yours as well. You don’t have to share it with me- share it with your loved ones, and you may find that yours is very similar to theirs. It might seem morbid at first, but it’s actually a lot of fun and it generates some good conversation.

So, without further adieu, here is my bucket list. Some of the things on it are ambitious (read: unlikely), some are adventurous, and some are downright silly. Enjoy!

1. Watch the ball drop in Times Square.

Did anyone else grow up ringing in the new year with Dick Clark? I did! And ever since, I’ve wanted to watch the ball drop in the Big Apple…just once.

2. Go to the New York City Ballet.

My kids and I go see the Nutcracker every December…locally. And while we love going to watch George Ballanchine’s famous masterpiece, I’d absolutely love to see a nationally renowned performance.

3. Learn to play my guitar

I’ve actually been working on this goal off and on since college, but I find myself with very little opportunities to practice. Someday, I’m going to learn how to play it FOR REAL.

4. Visit all 50 United States.

My family had a goal when I was growing up to visit all 48 mainland states before I left for college. Due to rising gas prices and parents who worked a lot, we only made it to 36. Someday, I’d love to visit the states I’ve yet to visit. I’d love to visit Niagara Falls, travel on the Pacific Coast Highway, and I’d love to see the giant redwoods.

5. Travel to the Silos at Waco and meet Chip and JoAnna Gaines!

Any Fixer Upper fans in the house? This may be one of the sillier things on my list but I would LOVE to go to Waco and see the Silos…and meet Chip and Jo. Oh, how I’d love to pick their brains for DIY project ideas have a cup of coffee and some good conversations with them.

6. Visit the UK

I’ve always wanted to see England, Scotland, and Ireland, due to the fact that my ancestors originated there. I have always been fascinated by the history there and of course, how beautiful the countries are. I cannot wait to see the places I’ve read about and watched on TV.

7. Do the Ironman Triathlon and FINISH

The biggest race I’ve ever run was the Tarheel Ten Miler, and I’ve done it twice now. I really want to do the Ironman, but I’m just a tiny bit scared I won’t finish. I still intend to try.

8. Read every Agatha Christie mystery novel

This may be the only actually attainable thing on my bucket list…well, it’s certainly the easiest. I am a sucker for a good mystery, and Agatha Christie will certainly keep you turning those pages. If you love mysteries, I’d definitely recommend reading a few of hers.

9. Attend “Christmas at the Ryman” and see Vince Gill and Amy Grant perform live!

I grew up listening to the two of them, and I’d absolutely love to see their annual Christmas concert. It would be a dream come true.

I hope you have enjoyed my bucket list! I’d love to hear all about yours. Have a wonderful weekend.
